About Us

Pamela Smith ABRS- ITA, BHS - Proprietor of Serene Acres Riding Center: “I have a wealth of practical horse experience - both riding and stable management. Having lived and worked in Great Britain for 15 years, I am accredited with the British Horse Society and the Association of British Riding Schools. We have delightful ponies from Scotland suitable for children’s lessons. Learning should be fun and above all else, I stress the importance of enjoying your horse.”

Pamela has established a wonderful reputation in this area and her approach with children receives particular commendation. She demonstrates tireless commitment to her students and horses.

Largely as a result of Pamela’s personal dedication, Serene Acres was nominated as ‘2010 and 2014 Agricultural/Rural Business of the Year’ within the Loudoun Chamber of Commerce Small Business Awards. A finalist award was achieved in both years.

Pamela has also achieved the distinguished honor of being voted top equine coach and number 3 county wide coach in the Leesburg Today People Awards.

Our Instructors

Miss Olivia (ARIA) is a family member and has the same passion for horses as her mother, Pamela. She now helps manage all activities at Serene Acres and is accredited with the American Riders Instructors Association. Olivia is active in Pony Club and achieved her certification within both Pony Club and ARIA. Olivia loves to teach all ages of riders and is very helpful at events and shows. She has more energy than most and yet displays a humble approach at all times - evidenced by her distinguished 'sportsmanlike' behavior awards.

Miss Emily joined us this year officially and has become a great addition to the barn. Emily is a US Pony Club C3 graduate from the Sunshine Region in FL and made the move to Virginia last year.

Emily is currently working on completing her education as a Physical Therapist and works part time as a therapist assistant.  Her desire is to continue along this avenue of education and include Hippotherapy combining her love of horses and her love of helping others.

Miss Kelly joined us this year and is well known by Serene Acres as she was one of our much loved riders here for years. Kelly is a C2 US Pony Club graduate from the Virginia Region. Kelly has worked in several barns as a working student and gained experience and knowledge that makes her an important person to have in the barn.

Kelly has been one of our camp councilors in summer camps and is a fun person to teach the young riders.

Emmy is the heart of the barn as the working student and makes all of our jobs much easier. She is the coordinator of farrier services and feed room procurement official, making sure all the horses are fed what they need and supplements are organized.

The younger WSPs (working student program) has many young shinning faces who come each week to learn and help in the barn. They keep the ponies exercised, cobwebs down and make what we do a real joy! These are some of the many helpers around the barn.

Here are a few who helped us last year and we love all of our barn helpers.
