We have NEW LESSON spaces for beginner riders age 7 plus. We have a few spaces available in our more advanced lessons for riders age 12 plus. We also have home school ride time during the day for those who would like their children to learn more about horses – from horse care to horse riding. Riding lessons are designed to produce balanced, secure and effective riders that are in harmony with the horses they ride. It is vital, therefore, that beginner riders are taught soundly from the outset. Correct foundations, with an emphasis on posture, are paramount. We take time with beginners in order that stability, confidence and effective riding is achieved before moving on to the next level.
Pamela Smith manages all riding instruction and instructs personally at certain designated times of the week.
Lessons are taught privately or in a group situation.
- Beginners – Will be taught to ride in walk and trot, progressing to rising on a named diagonal.
- Beginners Plus – Will take riders on to the next level including walk, trot and canter. Aids used for effective and balanced transitions. Work will incorporate ground poles in preparation for jumping, drills and formation riding.
- Intermediate – At this level, the rider will have established a good foundation in equitation, being secure and confident. Work will include riding without stirrups, leg yields and jumping up to 2’6.
- Advanced – Lessons and jumping lessons can be given on a private basis.
Trail Rides are offered from the farm. All trail rides are accompanied by one of our instructors across the Bluemont countryside. The trails usually last about an hour although longer trails can be organized by arrangement. Prior notice must be given for all rides and prices start from $65 per rider.
Pony Camps are offered during school vacations on a restricted number basis. Camps will include ’Care of the Pony’, ’Stable Routine’ and ’Riding Lessons’. Click here for a list of camps.
In addition, Stable Management and Equitation courses are offered with the Association of British Riding Schools. Certificates given on completion of each test.
Shows - As a barn we attend shows throughout the summer season in the local Hunter shows. We provide fun and encouraging ways to ‘show’ what you have learned in your lessons. Most shows are within an hours drive and parents are involved in the preparation. You will win wonderful ribbons and have a fantastic time.
